Painting on the Edge
In my November newsletter, I shared with you some of the vignettes of a memorable trip to Kegos Camp in Algoma Ontario. Many of the artists were back for a second year and it was great to see them again. One of this year's artists was Steve Gilzow from Michigan; a very keen and talented artist who is a great admirer of the Group of Seven. Steve spent a full day on his return trip to Michigan at the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg, Ontario, admiring many of the original paintings he'd only see previously in print.

Vanessa on the edge.
These photographs show the dedication and cool nerve of Steve and Vanessa looking for that perfect view. The good news is that we didn't lose any painters that week because their enthusiasm was tempered with the good sense to not take a step back to admire their work.
The week at Kegos is always more than a painting trip. The atmosphere at Diana's studio/gallery was warm and friendly, the food excellent, and the dinner conversations were always interesting. Last year in 2011, we not only enjoyed Steve's views on many subjects as well as art, but also his recital of some of his favourite poems. Steve is a very talented poet, and I am pleased that he has consented to allow me to share with you a Haiku that he wrote at the lodge to accompany the small watercolour he painted.

Until next time, keep those brushes clean and ready to go!
